The Church of the Nazarene in Columbia

Colombia is a country in northern South America, with a population of approximately 50.88 million people, and the official language is Spanish. The Church of the Nazarene began work in Colombia in 1975 with pioneer missionaries Dean and Gwendolyn Galloway.  They were successful in obtaining government recognition of the denomination on 26 May 1975. The strategy that was adopted to spread the gospel was to begin Bible studies in homes in the main cities: Bogotá, Cali, Medellín, and Barranquilla. Since then, the church in Colombia has grown tremendously and continues to thrive today.

PRAISE and prayer for:

  • The Church of the Nazarene in Columbia:
    • for the more than 600 individuals who committed their lives to the Lord at the Exodus Mission Initiative April 2022 (see NEWS article)
    • for the missionaries from other nations who are serving in Colombia
    • because the church in Colombia continues to seek the Lord and cry out for revival amongst its people.
    • for the 12 Church-Type Missions in the country that will soon be organized churches
    • for the Colombians who have accepted the missionary call and going to other nations with the gospel
  • from the Sunbergs in Poland – We are so thrilled to welcome 3 Ukrainian-speaking therapists from Idaho and Washington to Poznań for the next 2 weeks. The realities and experience of war bring much trauma. These counselors have donated their time and expertise to be available for various sessions to our community. They are also working with helpers who have experienced secondary trauma over the last 4 months.  This week we had our first Group Therapy Session at Sweet Surrender Cafe, led by volunteer psychologists Ilona and Vitalina.  It was so meaningful for our Ukrainian guests as they were able to begin expressing verbally what they have been keeping inside for so long.  Also, listening to others share is enabling them to really understand they are not alone in their suffering.
  • JFHP report from  Zimbabwe We showed the JESUS film on Easter, and a single mother of three who had given up on life realized that Jesus was there for her. She accepted Christ and is now an active member of our new church. The church is located in a place called Dark City because there is no electricity there. We pray the establishment of a strong church will bring Christ’s light to this dark city.”

PRAY for:

  • the Church of the Nazarene in Columbia:
    • as they call upon the  Lord and as He strengthens the superintendents, pastors, lay leaders and national ministry coordinators
    • believers to accept God’s call and that the Lord will continue sending workers to serve in His harvest.  There is a need for more leaders and missionaries in the country
    • for God’s blessing upon each local Colombian Church.  May they grow in their understanding and ability to send offerings to the World Evangelism Fund (WEF)
  • JFHP  teams  in Zimbabwe  7 Teams;  25 Members;  6 Languages – Please Pray
