Alanna has been attending First Church along with her husband, Jon, since 2010. She currently serves on the Church Board as the Church Board Secretary, plays guitar and sings on the worship team, and enjoys preaching at the Garrison service. She was on the Pastoral Search Committee this past year and was previously involved for several years with the youth ministry. Alanna’s first experience serving on a Church Board was at her home church in Rocky Mountain House, where she also held a local minister’s license.
Alanna and Jon have been married for 14 years this August and have three children: Teddy (age 8), Annalise (age 4), and Titus (age 9 months). Their oldest two children were adopted from South Africa in 2016 and 2021, and Titus was born into their family in July 2022.
Alanna obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree (major: Psychology/Sociology; minor: Business Administration) from Ambrose University in 2010. She obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from Ambrose University in 2012. She has been a teacher at Rocky View Schools for the past eleven years, teaching in public education because of her belief in a strong public education system, as well as her belief that Christian teachers are needed in public schools. In her free time, Alanna enjoys spending time with her family, reading, rollerblading, and outdoor pursuits such as camping and hiking. She has also recently taken up gardening (wish her luck!).
Melanie Wenngatz, along with her husband Colin and their family of three boys, have attended First Church of the Nazarene for over 10 years. She grew up as a pastor’s daughter and moved amongst various cities throughout Canada as well as lived three years Mexico, as her parents worked in the mission field. Melanie holds a Bachelors of Music from the University of Calgary, and continues to be strongly involved in the music community within the city.
Performing in choirs and on worship teams continues to be a passion of Melanie’s. She enjoys putting together worship teams and a music lists that serve to further God’s Kingdom. Having three children, she is also involved in regular Sunday School volunteering, as well as running the music program for Vacation Bible School. Melanie started a small group Bible study in 2019 that is continuing to cultivate fellowship and discipleship in families from the Church. Being considered as a board member is an honour, and a big responsibility that she will not take lightly.
My name is Rachel Homann and my husband, Graeme, and I have been attending First Naz since shortly after we were married in 2018. We have two daughters, Madelyn, who is almost three, and Olivia, who is almost one. I grew up in Edmonton in a Christian family where I accepted Christ at a young age. My relationship with Christ is so important to me and I am so grateful that He has adopted me into His family. I have a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta. I moved to Calgary after graduating and have been working as a teacher at a local Christian school for over 10 years.
As I have become part of this church community, I have felt so welcomed and encouraged in my walk with God. I have enjoyed getting involved and serving in the children’s ministry, mostly in the nursery and toddler’s classes. It would be a privilege to serve on the church board if I am elected.
I was born and raised in Sri Lanka, spent my high school years in the United Arab Emirates, and lived in Vancouver, BC for my first 6 years in Canada. My wife Carolyn and I moved to Calgary in 2010 and have been attending Calgary First Church of the Nazarene for 13 years. We have 2 children – Sylvie (age 7) and Josie (age 4).
Educationally, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia, and a Masters in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary. After spending the first 5 years of full-time employment in Social Services, I also worked as the youth leader here at Calgary First Church of the Nazarene for 4 years (2013-2017), before beginning a consulting practice in Urban Planning and Development in 2018.
I just completed one term on the Church Board, where I sat on the Succession Planning and Pastoral Search Committees and chaired the Communications and Financial Stewardship Committees. Additionally, I play on the music team on Sunday mornings and teach Sunday School. I have also been known to preach occasionally over the past years at both our regular Sunday Service and the Garrison Service 😊. Other current board experience includes being a member of both the Killarney School Council and the Board of Directors for Ambrose University.
